We're excited to share with you my full RC mod of the LEGO Technic McLaren Formula One Race Car set (number 4141). Modifying this iconic car was quite the challenge, but the results are truly rewarding.
The additional of this modification lies in the integration of LEGO lighting accessories, elevating the realism of the McLaren Formula One experience. Imagine adding ZENE LED lights to illuminate the track as your RC McLaren speeds around corners, creating an immersive racing atmosphere like never before.
The centerpiece is a powerful Up L motor, seamlessly integrated into the chassis. Located in place of the seat and steering wheel, this motor provides the driving force behind the McLaren's exhilarating performance.
With a dual motor drive system and a gear ratio optimized for speed, this modified McLaren delivers impressive acceleration and responsiveness on the track.
One of the highlights of this mod is the user-friendly design for battery replacement. The control plus hub is conveniently positioned flush with the chassis, allowing for easy access to replace batteries without the need to remove the hub itself.
To provide a glimpse into the inner workings of this modification, I've removed the top of the car to showcase the neatly packed electronic components. From the dual motor drive to the steering motor, everything is meticulously arranged for optimal performance.
Navigating the track is made effortless with a powered-up controller featuring a proportional slider control. While the steering radius may not rival that of a real Formula One car, the adjustable steering values ensure precise control on every turn.
As you embark on your own RC mod journey, I offer a word of caution: take care when reconnecting the front and main chassis portions, as alignment may require multiple adjustments.

Purchased these plugs to replace ones from another manufacturer that stopped working with Alexa in less than a year. Easy to set up and lots of options on the Kasa app. Seamless integration with Alexa. Purchased another four plugs and the three-outlet power strip.
Simple, easy, & works great!
Used them to time and alternate the lights in my home and they worked flawlessly
After a recent power outage my Kasa smart switches along with my other Kasa devices on my network lost their schedule settings. When I tried to reset them I was getting error an message regarding time syncing. I contacted a Kasa representative using the sites chat option. Mid discussion the contact dropped. I tired again and was quickly connected to another representative. Both representatives I chatted with were very helpful. After losing the initial connection, the second rep. Glenn was able to pick up, review my previous discussion and walk me through steps to restore my settings on my Kasa app, solving my issue. His patience and knowledge were top notch. I have been very pleased with my Kasa products currently at 6 devices and intend to build on them. They are compatible with Apple HomeKit which was a deciding factor in my selection and their customer support is excellent. App is easy to use, very intuitive. Installation was a snap and they serve my purpose well. I have no regrets.
The were what was needed and worked great
Works great
Extremely easy to setup. Connect to unit via Bluetooth, tell it what wifi to use, and done. Pretty good wifi range. Easy to schedule/control devices from the KASA app worldwide.
Keep in mind it only uses 2.4ghz wifi, will not connect to 5ghz network.
These work great but for some reason although they work with Alexa she always states they are offline
Love these plugs! We connected them to our Alexa and it makes turning lights on year round so easy. Especially love it at Christmas because it makes it a breeze to turn on/off all the trees/christmas decorations!
Edit: June 2025: Still using the same exact ones in June 2025. Only issue I have had happened like once or twice in 3 years; it would occasionally disconnect from Google Home.. but the Kasa app still had them listed and I was able to delete the app from Google Home, re-add the app, and viola, the items were re-added easily. Imagine having to do that.. but with 3-4 different smart plug apps… Yikes! I’m still happy about these plugs :)
From April 2022 to July 2022, I bought 8 of the 2-packs because when I realized they were indeed so mini that I could plug two into an outlet, it won me over so hard. Now, I had other brands I was still using at the time but I switched 1/3 of the house to the mini plugs. But I've continuously having so much trouble with the "other brands" just randomly disconnecting (which I wanna say is normal as it's definitely not 100% perfect) and then I had to go on a hunt in my phone to figure out which app I used to connect them.
But what I loved about Kasa brand/app is that they require you to use their app to hook up their items. I was annoyed about that at first because I had been using another app for everything but it has changed my mind to more positive thoughts now.
When you connect in the Kasa app, you click the + sign and you choose which Kasa item you have. I click the mini smart plug choice and it does it's normal asking if it's been reset, blinking slowly or quickly, and my favorite part is it asks you to go to your wifi settings to connect to what I'm guessing is a signal from the plug.
You still have to type in your 2.4ghz internet password at some point in the app and it takes a second, then it's done. Name it what you want, which room, etc. Then go to your smart device (for me, it's Google Home), and it should be appearing at the bottom in the "Not in Your Home" section and you can now add it to a room!
I haven't hooked everything up completely yet but I'm happy that everything will be under one "roof" (under one app compared to 2-3 different ones) so if something fails, it'll be much easier to fix it!
Definitely definitely recommend these! Plus, they are mini so you can put them both in an outlet or have one and be able to plug anything else in the vacant spot. Some of the older smart plugs were so big and round it made it almost impossible to plug other items since it would sometimes cover the other outlet spot.. but not anymore 😍
Setup is straight forward and Google integration is pretty seamless. Good value for the money. Good experience.
I purchased these to replace my now un-supported-by-Alexa Wemo smart plugs. I was impressed with how easy these were to set up. I purposely looked for a smart plug with a physical "switch" and these fit the bill.
The best part about this smart plug is that it's shaped in a way that doesn't block the other socket. It's easy to set up and works great with my Google Home. I have circular ones from a different brand and I'll probably swap over to all Kasa ones from now on
With an Alexa this is the best thing I have in my house.
Very easy to set up and allows you to use Alexa or hey Google to turn things plugged into it off and on
